Fireworks – Great America

I’ve been wanting to take pictures of the fireworks show at Great America for quite some time now but I never got the chance to do it until this weekend. Great America has been having fireworks show every Saturday in August and since I missed out on getting some shots during Independence Day, this was an excellent opportunity to make up for it. This was my first time taking pictures of fireworks but I did prior research and read up on how to take some good shots so I was somewhat prepared. It was a bit tricky since I had to play around with the settings, positioning, and work against the time (the show only lasted about 7~8 minutes). Each shot ending up being between 5~30 second long exposure and I only had one chance to capture the image. Nonetheless, I am satisfied with the results and I may be returning this Saturday again to get some more.
I wasted a few minutes repositioning myself for this second shot so that the pole and electric cables weren’t in the way.
Perseid Meteor Shower

I went up to Dana Rock Park in hopes to get a few shots of the Perseid meteor shower, but no luck. The view from the top of the rock was spectacular, a place I will definitely be returning in the future. Going up there alone at night was quite scary, I didn’t know what to expect. At one point an owl flew by and started hovering about four to five feet away from me, flying back and forth, I can tell that it was starring at me to see what I was doing.
There were quite a few meteors while I was up there but I wasn’t able to capture them with my camera. They were either too fast or too dim for the lens to pick up. In the end, I didn’t stay very long there but I managed to get this nice shot. It is a stitched panorama view of Valley Christian from the top of Dana Rock. Click the image to view a larger version.

This past weekend I got the opportunity to take some prom pictures for Tina’s cousin’s prom. We took these pictures by Hayes Mansion. The weather wasn’t too cooperative but we were still able to manage :)
